Board of Advisors

Ajit Sahi

Journalist, Analyst, Activist

Ajit Sahi is a veteran Indian journalist, political analyst and civil liberties activist. He lives in Washington, D.C., and engages with diverse stakeholders, including the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Government, for advocacy on issues of religious freedom and human rights in India. He is a former Executive Editor of Tehelka, an Indian weekly newsmagazine, where he wrote a series of investigative reports exposing the Indian police and the criminal justice system for fabricated cases of terrorism against innocent Muslims and adivasis, India’s indigenous people. Sahi has also testified before the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the U.S. House of Representatives on the issue of religious freedom in India. He is a regular speaker on religious freedom and human rights in India, having spoken at a panel discussion organized by the Department of State at the National Prayer Breakfast 2020 in Washington, D.C., and at the Harvard India Conference at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA.

Audrey Truschke

Author, Educator

Audrey Truschke is Associate Professor of South Asian History at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. She received her Ph.D. in 2012 from Columbia University, and her research focuses on the cultural, imperial, and intellectual history of medieval and early modern India. She is the author of two books: Culture of Encounters: Sanskrit at the Mughal Court (Columbia University Press, 2016) and Aurangzeb: The Life and Legacy of India's Most Controversial King (Stanford University Press, 2017). Her third book, The Language of History: Sanskrit Narratives of Indo-Muslim Rule, is forthcoming from Columbia University Press in 2021.

Aman Wadud

Lawyer

Aman Wadud is a human rights lawyer, who provides support to people who are at risk of being stripped of their citizenship rights in the northeastern state of Assam.

Dr Waris Husain

Lawyer, Academic

Dr. Waris Husain is an adjunct professor of law at the Howard University School of law. Previously, Dr. Husain was a Policy Analyst at the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom covering the South Asia region. Dr. Husain received his S.J.D. degree from American University Washington College of Law in 2017, specializing in constitutional and comparative law. His dissertation focused on the Supreme Courts of Pakistan, India, and the United States which was published by Routledge South Asia in 2017. Dr. Husain received his J.D. from the Howard University School of Law in 2011 and his LL.M. at American University Washington College of Law, specializing in international human rights and international business in 2013.
